Pub of the Month

We’ve been working with Britain’s Beer Alliance on the There’s a Beer for That campaign, to match some of our award-winning Brentwood beers with popular dishes from around the World.  It got us thinking about some amazing ale and fine food matches much closer to home in pubs around the borough and nearby.

Our pick of the pubs:      The White Horse, Coxtie Green – our brewery tap – is November 2015 Pub of the Month.

With ten draught real ales on the bar there’s so much choice for beer lovers, some customers complain they don’t know what to choose.   You’ll find at least three different Brentwood Beers along with other well-known, popular brands on the beer menu. Food fans will find traditional, home style cooking on offer with some very popular specials, like Venison Stroganoff or Chicken and Mushroom Pie, listed on the chalkboard by the bar.  The specials change frequently, so they’re always worth a look.  The chef is Kirsty Ward.  Monday to Saturday the kitchen is open 12pm to 3pm.  On Sundays the kitchen is closed but free snacks, like roast potatoes, are served on the bar.

As for food prices, the most expensive meals, Beef or Lamb Shanks, cost less than £9.  Fish, Chips and Peas or Sausage, Mash and Peas will set you back just £6.95.       Described as ‘a nice, old, country pub’ by Manager Lynn, The White Horse offers a warm welcome, fabulous real ale and hearty, traditional food.  That’s why it’s our brewery tap!

For Brentwood Beer food match suggestions, as recommended by Britain’s Beer Alliance, try:

Brentwood Gold 4.3% ABV with Fish Chips and Peas

Tasting notes:  A rich, golden beer with slight, sweet malt character and heavily hopped with powerful fruity Cascade hops that come through at the end, providing a great finish.  (Gold Medal Great Taste Awards 2015)

Brentwood Hope & Glory 4.5% ABV with Sausage, Mash, Peas and gravy.

Tasting notes:  Full-bodied, red, premium bitter.  Well-balanced with full malt flavours and a  lightness of the hops, leaving a pleasing end note and lingering bitterness.
