Beer Festival

Dragons & Ales

Dragons may have been few but the flags of St George were flying, hundreds of beer fans came and of course there was an unending supply of quality, draught Brentwood Beer.  Thanks to everyone who came along to Brentwood Brewery on Saturday for our St George’s Beer Festival.  It was fun wasn’t it?

Whilst enjoying some award-winning, thirst-quenching Brentwood and Elephant School Beer, festival goers were entertained by Essex ukulele band The Ukelistics as well as rock and roll group Johnny and the Timebombs.  Thanks for coming along guys.

Julila Rich, The Ukelistics’ manager,  said:  “As always, Brentwood Brewery has put on another good event.  It’s great for the band to be here and we’re pleased to support local businesses.”

With 10 ales on the beer list, there was something to tempt every palate.  Every purchase of Elephant School Sombrero 4.5% ABV (Saison with Mexican inspired burst of passion fruit and hint of mint) also meant the chance to to wear the brewery’s Sombrero.    Tim Potter of Bishops Stortford, formerly of Brentwood, (pictured below) was one of many to enjoy a pint of Sombrero in said Mexican hat.  It was the first beer to temporarily sell out, remedied by a quick trip to the brewery’s cold store for Ethan.

For those wishing to toast St George (a day early, we do realise) then only a pint of George and The Dragon 3.8% ABV would do.

Beer enthusiasts were also keen to try a new brew, Project #, and give feedback on itWhilst comments were wide ranging, most were encouraging.

Brewery Manager Dean Beckwith manned the brewery’s mobile snack van, Beer Grylls, with help from his son Lloyd.  If anyone wants to know where the dragon for our Dragon and Ale Pie came from, Dean is the person to ask.  A qualified chef, Dean made all those delicious and very popular steak (we mean dragon) and ale pies.  Sausages made with our IPA by Totham Bangers were on the menu too.  (see www.tothambangers.co.uk)

Also enlisting the help of family was Bill Day from the Brewery’s Special Events Team.  His son William, aged 8, was keen to see what it would be like to be The Earl of Brentwood.

Ralph, Ethan, Debbie and Roland Kannor were helped on the beer festival’s two bars by Special Events Team members Shannon, Frank and Bill.  Everyone was kept busy, serving thirsty festival goers.

For anyone who missed Saturday’s event, please do not fret.  Brentwood Brewery’s next Beer Festival coincides with Beer Day Britain and World Gin Day on Saturday June 10th at Brentwood Brewery (next to Calcott Hall Farm Shop).  Hope you can join us then.

Love Beer, Love Brentwood
