Birth of a Community Brewery

Our story began in 2006, when neighbours Roland Kannor and Dave Holmes hit a midlife crisis and decided they could make better beer than what they were drinking at their local pub. Setting out to prove their point, they were soon joined by their sons Ethan Kannor & Mike Holmes. The vision was to create great beer and a welcoming space: a local brewery for Brentwood.

After 18 months of brewing in a friend’s garage on a 2.5bbl (400L) brewkit, we had generated some excellent and quickly-loved recipes, and needed room to grow.  Local businessman Jason Jopson helped finance a new 20BBL (3,260L) brewery which is still in use today. Our local brewery can now serve more communities beside our own.

A Brentwood Fixture

We are now based on the picturesque Calcott Hall Farm. Dave has since retired from the brewing industry and Mike moved on to join the Navy, leaving Roland and his son Ethan to continue living the dream that is the Brentwood Brewing Company. We’ve developed a well-respected core range of excellent ales, invited neighbours to enjoy our beautiful space and made friends with other local breweries around the country.

In 2010, we launched our second brand, Elephant School Brewing, to cater for the more rebellious drinker. Named after the elephant training grounds that used to exist in Brentwood (no really), Elephant School is home to our more adventurous ideas and experiments.

As of 2018, all of our beers are gluten free and all bottle beers are vegan friendly.

Brewing for our community — and yours

Since putting on our brewing boots we are extremely proud of what we have achieved. From our Salsa+ Beer accreditation to winning awards, including National Premium Lager with our ’Elephant School Pilsner’, and multiple Society of Independent Brewers medals including 2018 Brewers in the Community.

However, our greatest achievement is cementing ourselves as a beacon of joy in our local community. Come see us in our taproom or join us for one of our local beer festivals throughout the year! We’re always delighted to see you.
