A pint of gluten free craft ale from Brentwood Brewery

Our gluten free craft ales are delicious, designed for quality and frankly very quaffable. We understand how this could raise a few questions!

Q:  How can our beers be gluten free when they contain barley and wheat?

A.  All the gluten is removed by the addition of an enzyme into the fermenter. This makes craft ale into gluten-free craft ale. There may be an issue, however, if someone is allergic to the cereal rather than just the gluten.

Q:  Are our beers suitable for coeliacs?

A:  Yes. All our beers are tested regularly and the gluten tests show the minimum they can show,  less than 10 parts per million (ppm). The law and Coeliac UK define ‘gluten free’ as containing less than 20 parts per million, meaning our gluten free craft ales are exactly that.

Q:  Why use barley and wheat at all when there are other gluten free cereals that could be used?

A:  Taste. Barley and wheat provide the best flavour and body to a beer. We want everyone to be able to enjoy a great-tasting beer.
