We’ll be celebrating May Day on Saturday 1st May, outside at Brentwood Brewery.

It’s an ancient tradition which, according to Wiki ‘wisdom’, dates back to the second century AD when a month-long festival was appropriated by Roman Emperor Commodus.
As part of the partying, hares and goats were released and crowds were pelted with lupins.  The festival was also associated with celebrating Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, ritual madness and wild frenzy, as well as Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and passion.  Closer to home and more recently maypole and morris dancing are more the order of the day.

We cannot promise sprinting hares, goats or low-flying lupins (or dancing for that matter) but be assured we’ll all be enjoying an appropriate and fun celebration at the brewery.

Roland promises a free pint for anyone in May Day fancy dress.  Social distancing and anti-covid measures will be in place.  Tables under cover, for up to six people will be available.
