Fragile Xmas Ale

Fragile Xmas Ale is a Brentwood charity collaboration beer that has X-factor:

Brentwood Brewery is raising awareness of Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic condition which is the most common inherited cause of learning disability, with a special brew, Fragile Xmas Ale 4.3% ABV. This Brentwood beer will also be raising funds for the Essex-based national charity helping children and families with the syndrome. Charity, The Fragile X Society, will receive a 10p donation for every bottle or pint sold.

Fragile Xmas Ale 4.3% ABV will be launched on Saturday 10th December at Brentwood Brewery’s Christmas Beer Festival, taking place at the brewery 10.30am – 5pm. A full range of Brentwood Christmas real ales will also be available.

Version 3A few weeks ago little Oakley Kannor visited the brewery to supervise his Mum, Holly and Dad, head brewer, Ethan, brewing Fragile Xmas Ale in collaboration with The Fragile X Society’s Becky Hardiman and Sophie Kashi.

Holly said: “Last December our world was turned upside down when our son, Oakley, was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome.

“Prior to Oakley’s diagnosis, Fragile X Syndrome was a condition that we had never heard of and believe, to this day, would still know nothing about.

“We would love to create awareness and at the same time, raise as much money as possible for The Fragile X Society, so that they can continue to provide much needed information and support to families like us.”

Fragile X Society chief executive Becky Hardiman said: “Without the support of our generous donors and supporters, such as Brentwood Brewing Company, the charity could not provide its unique and important service.

“People living with Fragile X and their families often have to battle to get their needs and their condition understood across education, health and social care services.

“We are the only UK organisation specialised in Fragile X. We are here to support and empower people with knowledge about the condition and strategies to help, so that each individual can get the right support for them.”

Fragile X Syndrome

Fragile X Syndrome affects 1 in 4000 males and 1 in 8000 females in the UK. It can cause a wide range of difficulties with learning as well as social, language, attentional, emotional and behavioural problems. These can include: short attention span, distractibility, impulsiveness, restlessness, over activity and sensory problems.

To differing degrees, learning disabilities occur in almost all boys with Fragile X Syndrome. Girls with the condition tend to have milder learning disabilities than boys or none at all. There are exceptions.

Strengths associated with Fragile X Syndrome include good imitation skills, visual learning and long term memories. People with Fragile X Syndrome are often described as having likeable personalities, being sensitive to others’ emotions and having a good sense of humour.

MD Roland Kannor said: “Please drink Fragile Xmas Ale generously. This is a cause very close to our family’s hearts.”

Running Shoes Are On

To further help raise awareness and funds for children with Fragile X Syndrome, Holly, Ethan, brothers Hal and Ralph Kannor and friends (Team Fragile But Agile) are planning to tackle the Brentwood Half Marathon next year as well as the Brighton Marathon. The Fragile X Society based in Great Dunmow is set to benefit from their fundraising efforts. For more details see their Just Giving Page: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Team-Fragile-But- Agile

Fragile Xmas Ale is available to buy in bottles from the Brewery Shop.
