Silver & Gold at SIBA Beer Awards

Brentwood Brewery is celebrating after scooping a national Silver and three regional Gold awards at this year’s prestigious Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Independent Beer Awards.

Organised by SIBA and judged by brewers and industry experts, it was Elephant School Brewing’s Mallowphant 4.8%, brewed in Brentwood, that took the national Silver award in the Keg Speciality Mid to Dark Beers category, having also won the East region Gold in that class.  It means the marshmallow stout, fresh from the imagination of Head Brewer Ethan Kannor, has not only been crowned by SIBA as the region’s best beer in the category but it came second in the countrywide competition too.

Brentwood Old Ale and Hope & Glory

Topping the East region’s Keg Strong Bitters & Pale Ales category was Brentwood Old Ale 6.2% which got the Gold.  And there was another regional  Gold win for the brewery.  This time for Hope & Glory 4.5% in the Cask Premium Bitter category.  Both of these SIBA regional winning beers belong to the Brentwood Brewing range.

MP’s Congratulations

The town’s MP, Alex Burghart, was able to offer his congratulations in person on a recent visit to the brewery.  Ahead of its launch, the MP sampled a small taster of SPA, Session Pale Ale 4.1%, the newest beer in the Brentwood range, which he said was ‘fresh, light and tasty’.

Roland

Brentwood Brewery MD Roland Kannor said:  “It’s an extraordinary achievement and we’re absolutely thrilled to be recognised by these SIBA awards.  We’re proud of all the beers in the Brentwood Brewing and Elephant School Brewing ranges but it’s always very pleasing when such appreciation and accolades like this, come our way.

“If any beer fans out there would like to try a taster of our award-winning beers, you know where to find us.  We’re next to Calcott Hall Farm and open six days a week.  There’s always a choice of draught beers on the bar in our Tap Room.”

Stiff Competition

From the eight SIBA regions more than 450 beers were accepted into the competition.  Judging concluded at SIBA’s flagship BeerX event in Liverpool which was held earlier this month (March).  All winners of the regional competition then went on to battle it out in the national competition.  The overall champion in that competition was North Brewing Co for their Transmission IPA.

SIBA Chairman Buster Grant said:  “Quality beer in keg is growing hugely in popularity and we have seen the keg competition go from strength to strength in recent years, with this year’s competition being of an extremely high standard.

“I would like to congratulate all of the winners and recommend that beer drinkers keep an eye out for these fantastic brews.”

Notes for Editors

Brentwood Brewery is an award-winning British micro brewery based in  Essex.   It started production of traditional English real ales in 2006 and is run by a family with a passion for making and drinking the finest craft beer.

Its rebellious offspring brand, Elephant School Brewing, takes its name from the British East India Trading Company school at nearby Warley.  The school trained people to ride elephants before they were posted to India.

Whilst Elephant School beers are brewed in the traditional way, styles and flavours are innovative and exciting as they are left entirely to the endless imagination of head brewer Ethan Kannor.  The Elephant School range is full of never to be forgotten craft beers.

With the current exception of BBC1, Brentwood Beer is now gluten free and bottled ales are Vegan-friendly.

Brentwood Brewing Company is among just 2% of UK breweries to hold the quality accreditation SALSA plus Beer certification.
